The FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee proudly announces that Houston will serve as the official base camp location for the Democratic Republic of Congo during the global soccer tournament, further solidifying the city’s role as a premier destination for world-class soccer. Houston will serve as one of 48 sites across North America to serve as a Team Base Camp for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

As part of its preparations, DR Congo will train at a facility that will be temporarily designated as the Houston Training Centre during the tournament. The Houston Training Centre will serve as the team’s primary training and operations hub throughout the competition.

Democratic Republic of Congo, aka Les Léopards, are a team that are on a dynamic and rapid ascension in international football. They are a nation of more than 100 million and are currently ranked 46th in the world according to FIFA Men’s World Ranking, reflecting recent improvements and competitive performances on the international stage. Historically, the team made its sole FIFA World Cup appearance in 1974, when the nation competed under the name Zaire, and will be returning for the first time in over five decades by beating Jamaica 1-0 in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off Tournament game on March 31 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In advance of the team’s arrival, the primary training facility will undergo a full pitch replacement to meet the highest international standards required for FIFA. Additional renovations carried out by the Host Committee will include permanent improvements to key training facilities and operations sites, ensuring that Houston will benefit from enhanced facilities long after the FIFA World Cup 2026™ concludes.

“Welcoming the Democratic Republic of Congo to Houston for their FIFA World Cup 2026 journey is something we celebrate alongside their players, staff, and supporters around the globe —especially as the nation marks this milestone by declaring Wednesday, April 1st a national holiday. We’re honored to provide a home base where they can focus, prepare, and build momentum as they chase success in this historic tournament,” said Chris Canetti, President of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee.

Beyond its training infrastructure, Houston offers DR Congo unparalleled access to world-class hotels, seamless transportation networks, and premier amenities that support elite performance. The city boasts a diverse portfolio of luxury and full-service accommodations, providing privacy, comfort, and proximity to training sites. Coupled with a robust international airport system, efficient ground transportation, and a globally recognized culinary and cultural scene, Houston ensures a comprehensive, high-quality environment for players, staff, and visiting delegations.

The Houston Training Centre will provide DR Congo with top-tier amenities, including elite training pitches, performance and recovery spaces, and secure operations areas, all designed to support the demands of international competition at the highest level.
